Matt Barkley will not throw at Scouting Combine

11:22 AM ET 02.18 | It was initially believed that USC Trojans quarterback Matt Barkley would throw at the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis that kicks off this weekend. Now, ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that Barkley is not expected to throw at the Combine. It was less than a week ago that Barkley spoke about how big the Combine is for his career, but it appears that he has forgotten just how important of an event he is choosing to sit out of. It is a questionable decision by Barkley, who had a disappointing senior season that ended with a separated shoulder. He needed an impressive outing to have a shot at reclaiming the spot as the top quarterback in the draft class. Instead, Barkley is giving the other signal-callers a chance to solidify their rankings ahead of him.

Is this Deja Vu, or just unedited redundancy?

My guess would be incompetence....

He also will not go until the 3rd round.

There isn't a QB in this draft that should go before the Third round...

Staying for his Senior season will end up costing him at least $15,000,000. I really hope the marching bands and baby dolls were worth it.

BTW he's got Chad Pennington written all over him.

Great kid, but just an awful senior season.

Barkley got conned into staying a USC for one more year by the master con artist himself Lane Kiffin. Barkley staying at USC only benefitted one person- Lane Kiffin. Barkley went from being a 1st round pick in 2012 along with Andrew Luck. To a second round hopeful in 2013. The con job will cost Barkley millions of dollars and any chance of becoming a starting QB during the next 4 years. Barkley will move to the end of the USC washout QB conga line. Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Matt Cassel, Mark Sanchez, and now Matt Barkley.

Why are they even inviting him to the Combine if he can't throw. Send him home and tell him to wait for Pro Day's. Let some other kid from a small school take his place and try and make a name for himself.

IF he had shown up and thrown the ball Under Armor would have given him $1 million or so to parade around all day in one of their T-shirts. Instead Barkley will most likely plummet to the back of the 1st round or fall even further into the second round. So teams that were thinking that they needed to be in the TOP 10 in order to get Smith, Barkley or Glennon can now feel comfortable in trading down with a team, pick up a draft choice and still get your teams potential "Franchise QB".
