02:52 PM ET 02.18 | After a two month search, Pitt decided its defensive coordinator would come from within the program, promoting secondary coach Matt House to the position while hiring a pair of assistants.

The defensive coordinator position has been open on Paul Chryst's staff ever since Dave Huxtable left the program to join Dave Doeren at NC State. House's experience as a coordinator is limited to his interim stint during the Panthers' BBVA Compass Bowl appearance.

Pitt also hired John Palermo, who has 38 years of coaching experience including 15 at Wisconsin, to coach defensive ends and linebackers, and Pitt alum turned NFL safety Hank Poteat as a graduate assistant with an emphasis on cornerbacks.

It seems that there are more changes at the assistant coach level this year. Maybe it's being covered better, or maybe I just don't remember. My guys already replaced the D-line coach, and now are looking for a new OC.
