Dennis Dixon says Eagles are holding open competition for starting job

07:03 PM ET 02.18 | The Philadelphia Eagles are a team still far from being complete. They have their head coach and they re-signed Michael Vick but there are still a lot of questions that need to be answered before the team starts moving forward with the Chip Kelly era in Philly. The main question is who will be running one of the most highly anticipated offenses in the NFL? Obviously, the Eagles -- or at least Chip Kelly -- still value Michael Vick as they restructured his deal to keep him in town for another year at the fraction of the cost it otherwise would have been. But there's also the matter of Nick Foles, who proved he is more advanced as an NFL starter than we all thought he was. Trent Edwards is still on an NFL roster as the Eagles have seen it fit to keep him on board moving forward. The Eagles also signed former Oregon quarterback and Chip Kelly-project Dennis Dixon, meaning the team is now carrying four quarterbacks into the offseason. According to Dixon, while Vick is returning and Foles has proven he can be a starter, the Eagles are still going to hold open competition this offseason to see who will be the starter in 2013.

The Eagles learned last year that you can't just buy a bunch of players and line 'em up. So when that didn't work out they decide to bring in a coach with radical college schemes. Brilliant.

The eagles learned NOTHING over the past few decades--- only how to LOSE. Whatever their decision, it will be entertaining and the WRONG decision.... that is the legacy of this LOSER organization...

Oh yeah-- here is another LOSER decision---- howie roseman... Great job Greedy Lurie...

What's the over/under on if Philly will start as many QBs in 2013-2014 as Arizona did in 2012-2013?

I think this is wishful thinking on Dennis' part. Or maybe that's what the Eagles told him to convince him to sign with them.

Eagles: 'Dennis, if you sign you have the same chance as the other 2 QB's to win the starting job.'
Dennis: "Great! Where do I sign."
Dennis' Agent: Wait they'll have 4 QB's under contract. Don't sign that!!!"
Dennis: "Too late?!"

Vick is not the answer. Was not in Atlanta and Philly, he gets hurt too much, Vick has only played 1 complete season in his career. Fowles does not fit Chip Kelly's system. Dixon is a back up because he gets injured. Every time he has played a couple of games when Ben was injured he gets hurt too much.

Of course it is an open competition. Hell I think with how bad their QB situation it has to be open. If someone off the street can win the job, now is the time.

February 19, 2013  12:06 PM ET

What was the name of the QB the Eagles picked up off the street ?

February 19, 2013  12:09 PM ET

Dixon better watch out, Michael Vick knows all about putting animals in a closed environment and having them fight it out. Will there be wagering during the QB competition ? The winner of the competition gets to live in a mansion, the loser gets to live in a dog house.

This guy has been in the NFL for 5 years; total of one touchdown pass and 2 INTs; spent the last year on Ravens practice squad......enough already with all the articles on Dennis Dixon! We can wait until he actually does something! Ever hear the saying you're making a mountain out of a mole hill?????
