08:19 AM ET 02.19 | Heading into Wednesday's nationally televised rivalry game against Philadelphia, Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin has one more goal than Craig Adams. How good will the Penguins be when Malkin finally gets it going? [As of Monday] morning, the Penguins rest atop the NHL's Eastern Conference standings with 22 points. ... The Penguins are winning despite getting little from Malkin, who hardly resembles the player who scored 50 goals last season, won the NHL scoring title for the second time and was the league most valuable player. He didn't get a point against Buffalo, his fifth consecutive game without a goal. He has scored just three goals through the first one-third of the lockout-shortened season.

Everyone has down years, Malkin probably deserves a rest considering what he was doing in Magnitogorsk, and for the Penguins the past 2 seasons sans Crosby. He'll pick it up, I'm sure, he's too good not to, but this season might be a slow one for a good many players...

Malkin has hit skids before where he tries to much and his production suffers. Plus it didn't help with Boychuk and Tangradi dead weight on his line. Malkin isn't like Crosby he won't make chicken soup out of chicken crap.

I still don't see what the Pens saw in Boychuk when they snagged him from the Waivers from my 'Canes, he was a borderline talent here, but who knows, maybe they can develop him in Pittsburgh, That being said, Malkin doesn't like having to work without pre-made players either.

I'm sure he'll be just fine. Chemistry seems to be an isue this season more than any other.

Put him back on a line with Neal and Kunitz. That should solve a lot.

He was playing a game or 2 between body shots of Vodka from the Natashas... Apart from hockey, mining, and getting drunk there's not much else in Magnitogorsk lol

They gave him Neal which is awesome but it benefits Neal more. I forgot they had Kennedy dead weight on his line too. I don't understand why the Pens can't accept that Kennedy is not a top 6 forward.

Why is Cooke playing on his line now? That makes no sense to me.

He was almost a 20 goal scorer last year. Playing a good amount on the 4'th line.
