Leafs looking for a veteran goalie

08:22 AM ET 02.19 | Now, as has been the case for a few years, Toronto might benefit from a veteran goaltender. Maple Leafs general manager Dave Nonis joined The TSN Drive with Dave Naylor on TSN Radio 1050 Toronto on Monday and discussed his club's desire to acquire a veteran goaltender. "Both our (current) goalies are aware of it, it's not that we don't think that we have NHL-calibre goaltenders, or goalies with the ability to become very good starting goaltenders," Nonis explained. "But if we could add someone to help them along, a veteran that would help them grow, then we would do it." Toronto's incumbent netminders -- James Reimer and Ben Scrivens -- have both played well in an early-season platoon. Together they have backstopped their club to 10 wins in 16 games so far.

In other words, NOT Luongo

Let them grow with the team they are doing just fine.

I don't get this, what exactly is wrong with Reimer? He's not done anything wrong apart from get injured, and that happens to almost everyone eventually... Theyneed a decent back-up sure, Scrivens may be a career minor leaguer, but the few times I've watched him play.... they've been clunkers.

Part of that growth comes from learning from a guy who's been around. Not to mention with Reimer's injury history, having a vet to step in if him or Scrivs go on the IR would definitely be a boon.

I could see a guy like Theodore ending the year in TO, but I could see other teams maybe going after him too.

Theodore is a nice choice, or you could track down Bryzgalov.... I imagine the Flyers are still taking offers there... heh

Like I said from the start - 0% chance. Even if the Irk was still lurking. Which he isn't. So less than 0% chance.

Never say never, that word has a habit of biting people hard on the hind quarter...

Would Luongo be that bad a fit for the Leafs though?

May I suggest Tim Thomas, Dwayne Roloson or Nicolai Khabivodka instead?

Krabby-bulin is still alive? Man I thought he soaked himself in a Vodka still in Chelyabinsk or something...

As for Thomas, isn't he needed at the local funny farm?

Roloson would be a logical choice.... if only he could stand up...

With that contract, it is SO not worth it.

Jonas Hiller may very well be on the block soon. If not this deadline than in the summer. He's a year from UFA and, unless this is the greatest goaltending fluke in NHL history (totally possible), he's definitely lost his job in Anaheim.

Kiprusoff could be departing Calgary. Old but a workhorse who was never given a proper team in Calgary.

Jimmy Howard and Mike Smith both UFA.

Lundqvist, Miller and Halak are all UFA's in summer 2014.

Luongo was never the smart choice.

February 19, 2013  09:35 AM ET

I don't see what the problem is they both seem to be doing pretty good. Scrivens didn't do too bad last night.

Well, they said "veteran," didn't they? All three qualify and could fill the bill. Khabivodka was spectacular the other night for the Oilers.

Well, if he was never given a proper team in Calgary, what makes you think he'll have one in Toronto?

Ouch Roamer, but well put...

Kipper could make it in Leaf-land as long as his legs can hold him up...

The wet paper bag we had in net last night means Kipper does not get traded.

Put well taken, but there is a difference from Veteran to The Walking Dead on ice... the latter 2 fit this mold to a T...

Jose Theodore....

Because the Leafs now have one of the 3 best teams in the league.
