Eagles G.M.: Combine won't affect draft board

07:27 PM ET 02.19 | A lot is always made of the NFL Draft Combine and how it can affect the stock of certain prospects that bring their all and convince teams that they're worth selecting higher than initially projected. The Combine runs deeper than the first two days and can affect players projected to be taken much later in the draft. If you're a sixth-round prospect and you display your skills at the Combine well enough, you could top out as a fourth- or fifth-round pick. Even if you don't raise out of your projected round, the higher you go the more money you get. But while a lot of people tend to geek out over the Combine results, NFL general managers apparently don't take it as seriously as the fans. Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said that the Combine is a cute idea but it's not going to change his draft board.

If the combine doesn't affect the draft board then why even have it?

February 19, 2013  10:07 PM ET

Maybe that is why the Eagles suck?

It generates a bunch of money in ticket sales and also TV commercials.

Now that's the real reason, money and viewership!

If it is not going to change Howies opinions about players he plans on taking then maybe he shouldn't go. For any person to declare at this point that nothing can change his mind is utter stupidity.

Maybe Howie should enlighten the world on his process and the information he holds most valuable in making his decisions ? Please don't tell me that he watches and listens to Mel Kiper.

I agree, it shouldn't matter what you do at the combine. Can you play the game? GM's aren't paying you millions to play combine. Just ask Taylor Mays, Vernon Gholston, Heyward-Bey and AJ Jenkins.

The Eagles have selected a few guys who were combine beasts and NFL busts... There's enough video out there on all the high round guys that tells you a hell of alot more than a few days of workouts and interviews. And who really puts any stock in the Wonderlic test???

And just who is Howie Roseman and what is his claim to fame??

February 20, 2013  09:37 AM ET

Having a coach who was a college coach last year, should help them a lot in this years draft!

So then obviously the eagles won't be in attendance at the combine....right?

Hello Mike Mamula.

Ahhhh, the NFL Poster Boy for over emphasizing Combine stats/performances!

Naw, the Eagles suck because they tried to buy a championship. All they ended up with is a dysfunctional bunch of divas

To say that it won't change anything seems a bit absurd. Put your money where your mouth is and skip the combine. And even if you skip it, you still need to prove it by drafting soundly and also by picking up serviceable undrafted FAs.

Not to mention the repetition.
