Nail Yakupov doesn't think L.A. Kings will retaliate

07:34 PM ET 02.19 | On Jan. 24, Edmonton Oilers rookie Nail Yakupov was the subject of a Don Cherry rant (well, who isn't) and he was talked about all around Canada -- and Los Angeles. The reason was Yakupov's over-the-top celebration after scoring a game-tying goal on Jonathan Quick and the Kings. Yakupov scored and proceeded to sprint down the ice and slide on his knees as though he had just won the Stanley Cup for the Oilers. Obviously, Oilers fans have no problem with this and they really shouldn't. Yakupov is yet another budding young star on a team of budding young stars -- a team that's been just awful for so long. So naturally once things start going well, people are going to get loose with the rules, or the celebrations. But around the Los Angeles, the vitriol seems to disregard the plight of Oilers fans and center on how Yakupov danced all over them for no good reason. Yakupov was asked if he expects any retaliation when the two teams meet again tonight, and his response was short, to the point and hilariously ironic: we're all adults here.

If "we're all adults here" then why sprint down the ice and slide on his knees as though he had just won the Stanley Cup on a game tying goal but c'est la vie definition

Because he was excited?
Because he grew up in Europe where soccer players do 1000x worse when they score the lone goal for their team in a 3-1 loss?
This is so dumb.

If you played on Edmonton you would celebrate like that every goal too! This team has nothing else to celebrate for. The kings know that. Next time maybe a 7-0 win thrashing will set the record straight.

I gotcha Danny I just think the excited celebrations consistently gets excessive much like the example you gave.

So should the league call excessive celebration, 2 mins in the sin bin? Do a little Ray Lewis dance in front of the goalie that maybe worth 2 in the bin.

The kid's minus 8. Before he does any celebrating, perhaps he should learn how to actually play the big boy game like a big boy. Nail his butt to the bench until he learns to play hockey. If he wants to jump around the dressing room to celebrate then let him do that.

european soccer players are embarrassments, ergo, russian hockey players must be as well? Nice logic Danny.
I feel that there's a middle ground...but celebrating like you won it all in week 1 is weak. Copping out to his 'culture' is lame. Because, you know, he watched Christina Ronalda celebrate like a fairy, so he couldn't possibly understand that hockey players don't do that. I suppose playing a couple seasons in the OHL and watching the NHL wasn't a strong enough indication.

"Nail Yakupov doesn't think L.A. Kings will retaliate"
Oh, but they did! And with seconds left in the game too. It was the best kind of revenge.

Absolutely. Overcelebrating may be irritating in an early game, but concussions can end careers. No comparison between an elbow to the head, a skate edge to the achilles tendon and a goofy dance down the ice after a goal.

I agree...and Teemu came back from having his Achilles sliced and continues to roll along so hopefully Karlsson can come back and continue to build on his early success.
