Cano, Yankees on epic collision course

Or just trade his ass. Let the nouveau riche learn what the Yankees have the past few years. Let the Rangers or Dodgers or Angels or whoever the hell else give him a fat contract into his twilight years and regret it in 3 years. NY will be better off for it.

Problem with trading him in a walk year is that essentially you will get little in worth back for him. So unless the Yanks are willing to take back a package of prospects or second tier players then a trade would not make a lot of sense. The only scenario where that might not be true is if the Yanks were out of running for the playoffs and a contender was really hot for him. Then they might be able to trade Cano and make out like bandits.
Signing him to a long term contract is not advisable either, in my opinion because if you give him anything longer than five years then by the fifth year he is on the wrong side of 35 and the returns, to put it kindly, will be diminishing.
So simply put the Yanks are in a tough situation.
Personally, I think they need to bite the bullet and either offer up an extra year or two at somewhat max money and hope Cano tells Boras he will take it or wait until midseason and pull off a trade and get the best deal that they can for him.

Either way I would not want to be named Brain Cashman if either scenario plays out.

Let some other team foolishly offer Cano 8 years. Boras can go (fu)ck himself.

I am good with that. And remind Boras the next time he tries to compare him to Rogers Hornsby that the Raj did NOT hit .239 vs lefthanders for a year with a "mighty" .337 SLG.

I agree. Give him 5 years and no more, at the end of the contract he can play year to year and probably earn another 10-12 million on top of the nearly 200 million he would've earned.

I am a solid capitalist... but sometimes - I wonder - when is enough - enough. You are right. It'll depend on NYY's playoff hopes v. others as they drive for the finish. I don't think he'd take an extension so that he is in his early 30's when he is a free agent. He needs to strike it while the iron is hot now. Either way - I seen the NYY's paying through the nose.

This is all nonsense.Seriously people...what do we care how much a player makes?The Yankees and all other clubs will still charge you all they can get regardless.Yankees dont need to sell a ticket to break even.But they dont let you in for free,do they?They are in the business of making money and we are simply fans who root them on if they can get good players.Its just like ARod.If he was making 500,000 a year we would think he was the best thing since popcorn.Since he is paid so much...we hate him.Its silly when you think of it.You want to get and keep players like Cano no matter what it costs if you are a fan.If you are the owners,you want him to play for free.Simple as that.

agreed , sounds about right 5@150 more money less years .. can see Cano still being productive at 35 .. problem is the Dodgers will be jumping all over this bidding war do to the fact that 2nd base is their most glaring weakness.

Give him 10 years for elebenty bajillion dollars. What could go wrong?

This is what I see happening.

Boston got lucky and dumped a massive amount of payroll on the Dodgers who had Magic money in their pockets. New York isn't yet out from under their load, and the ever-increasing luxury tax looms ahead. The entire AL East is gettingand will get worse before it adjusts to the new rules and gets better. West Coast? Like Toronto, they have a small window of time to grab a ring. Then they'll be learning the lessons of the East.

So, what is better? One very very good $30 million a year player on your team or two very good $15 million a year everyday players?
