Coach: Mariota 'taller, faster' than Johnny Football

08:13 AM ET 02.20 | Whether Mark Helfrich keeps Oregon rolling has a lot to do with how 6-foot-4, 212-pound Marcus Mariota responds. Mariota threw for 2,677 yards and 32 touchdowns, with only six interceptions, in 2012. He also ran for 752 yards and five scores. Terrific numbers? Sure. But on the [Johnny Manziel] scale, well, they could've been better. Manziel is relevant here not only because he's a former Oregon commit, but also because he's now the guy all young college quarterbacks are measured against. Johnny Football is spectacular, but know this: Physically, he's no Mariota. "We had Johnny and Marcus both committed," Helfrich says, "and we ended up with the taller, faster, better-looking guy." Don't overreact, Aggie Nation -- it's just a harmless joke.

LOL, my point was that "Johnny Boy" wouldn't have won the Heisman, if it weren't for the Bama game, where Mariota lost to Stanford and ruined Oregon's perfect season!!! IMO that game put him over the top. Nevertheless he did beat Bama and I guess that was good enough for the Heisman voters!!! :-)

Agreed-and if LUS had not taken a lot out of Bama the week before-A&M loses that game. This year Bama has a bye and A&M a semi bye (Sam Houston State) the week before. Should be a good game. The winner has the inside track to the winning the division as neither has to play any tough teams from the east. How did that happen?

yeah you can go there...mario'ta would have beaten "mr. football" for the starting job...he only played 2-3 quarters of many of the games where johnny stayed in a racked up numbers in blowouts...look it up! he is faster, taller and a better passer. is manziel a great player? yes. a great improvisor and athlete? yes. is marcus a better qb? yes. and if you numb nuts bring up the heisman then you know nothing! did peyton manning win it? marshall faulk?? the list goes on and on...beating bama was the difference-and those gaudy numbers- but as you said we lost to stanford in a game they should have won and we did not get the chance...but hey "the old timer" we did beat sc on their field and i was at that game and the final score was not as close as the game...last td came after a blown call on a duck interception with very little time left...but who cares really if they never face each other...but maybe they will! GO DUCKS!
ps mike mack- get ready to hear a lot about marcus mario'ta! eat that boys...and twice on saturday! quuuuaaaacccckkkk! duck u!

Not sure who is faster, JF is definitely a better scrambler where MM is a better passer. Alot of MM's rushing yards were actually between tackles.

Much like A&M with Manziel, the speed of Mariotta and Barner would've been too much for Alabama (Saban however knew that and kept his team far away from the Ducks).
