Bruins coming after Alfie?

08:18 AM ET 02.20 | Moving Daniel Alfredsson wouldn't be easy, but if the Senators sink without key players Jason Spezza and Erik Karlsson, they might entertain the notion. It's going to be really sensitive for sure. There has been no player as popular in the history of the Senators. Senators GM Bryan Murray can't control other teams calling him and that's going to happen if the Senators fall off because of those injuries. I believe one of the teams that will pursue Alfredsson very seriously are the Boston Bruins, who have some cap room after trading Tim Thomas. There are some obvious connections in Boston with Zdeno Chara -- Alfredsson's former teammate from Ottawa -- and general manager Peter Chiarelli who worked in Ottawa. They won't be the only contenders.

Guess the 'terns were reading my comments yesterday.
From the B's? Pick and a prospect. I figure he'd command something like Kaberle did.

I'd I figure that he'd be worth substantially more than whatever Kaberle brought in...

You do? An aging winger with mediocre production who will be a UFA this summer and probably retire is worth more than a first a second and a prospect?
We aren't talking about Scott Gomez here...

It being such a short season, I think there will be a couple of teams that make less than rationale moves. However, they should watch making moves out this short season that will haunt them many seasons to come.

Salary relief and a low round pick.

Alfie was going to retire last year so Melnyk, the loyal guy that he is (?), might decide to give him one last shot at the Stanley Cup. That's not about to happen in Ottawa. And, since he was going to retire, even a second round pick is better than nothing.

Exactly. Alfie comes back for 1 game or something next year , and retires with Ottawa.

It would be hard to push terms like that unless Alfie agrees to play a couple more seasons. He's been talking about retiring and no one is going to give up a lot for just a rental player.

Trade us Seguin and we'll talk. Otherwise bugger off. The Sens will be a competitor next year and rumour has it that Alfie will stick around for another year. He's not going anywhere folks.

Speaking of Kessler I gave him a 9 on his dive last night, but the refs only gave him 2(min)

Ottawa doesn't need salary relief. Alfie is making a pro-rated $1 mil this year on the last year of his contract. His cap hit is $4.875m. The Sens don't need any salary relief at all.

Seguin, you say? You're barking up the wrong tree! Thinks like that only happen in Toronto. But ... with BB gone ... you might be out of luck.
