02:35 PM ET 02.20 | Fred Davis was supposed to be one of the top free agent tight ends on the market. A season-ending Achillies injury altered those plans, but Davis may be ready to return sooner rather than later. Davis is ahead of schedule in his recovery from the ruptured left Achillies tendon, according to a report from Mike Jones of the Washington Post. The 27-year-old Davis suffered the injury in Week 7 against the New York Giants. After a breakout season in 2011, many expected Davis to develop into one of the elite tight ends last season. Washington thought highly enough of Davis to use the franchise tag on him last offseason. The Redskins aren't likely to do the same this season as they are taking a wait-and-see approach.

Get well Fred. We need you. Still can't help but wonder "what if", had we stayed healthy all season.

The Redskins are taking a "wait and see approach"... Ummm YEAH! Don't know how much money there is to spend until Lord Goodell takes away some of that unfair Cap punishment.

I think Brett Favre was going to try and come back to play TE if Davis wasn't ready.

Ahead? I live in the DC area and a week ago they said he was behind and he had to seek a second opinion post surgery.

I can't help but think he was going to be a disappointment anyway - never quite living up to expectations
