03:41 PM ET 02.20 | Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak spoke candidly about Dwight Howard on ESPN Radio Tuesday morning, reiterating that the team didn't intend on trading the center before the NBA's trade deadline - and expounding on his role with the franchise, making some interesting statements.

Kupchak said that Howard is the team's future - saying that he'll deserve a statue some day - but that team's window for success with Dwight and Kobe Bryant was comprised of this year and next year. He went on to say that Howard's relationship with Bryant is a "work in progress", evident to anybody who has watched the 23-29 Lakers.

He added the team wouldn't trade Pau Gasol either.

Unless they are willing to amnesty Kobe they better prepare for another losing season next year.

They need a coach that commands respect. Dantoni seems to be over his head regardless what management continues to say.
