03:55 PM ET 02.20 | The Alabama Crimson Tide will have some work to do this offseason in trying to cut themselves down to the standard 85 scholarships college football permits each FBS team. Research by Matt Hinton at CBS Sports indicates that Alabama currently has signed 95 players, ten over the normal limits. The Tide must take away scholarships from ten players whether via dismissal, transfer, or greyshirting multiple playres. Alabama currently has oversigned the most players, with Washington (91) and Virginia (90) fairly far behind.

Nah. They will still complain because SEC teams aren't occupying the top 14 spots on the list.

.....2-3 years ago, USC oversigned players in preparation for the sanctions...and they got beaten up for that.....Alabama deserves the same treatment (even though what both did appear to be legal).

Yeah, good point and USC received a great deal of crap just a few weeks ago for not allowing Pitts to enter school in the spring!!! Somehow Bama fans will put a spin on this story, to suit themselves!!! :-)

Bama football is turning into the NFL, sign so free agents, have try outs, and them cut them down to scholarship level.

Well the NCAA will have to put a stop to it, but as of now it's legal!!!!

I see my Spartans are on the list. The B1G keeps this (over signing) under control by not allowing anymore than 88 players signed at anyone time. That way, a full roster can be available in August, even after the natural attrition occurs. I preferred the way Dantonio used to do it: 85 at signing day, and walk-ons given schollys if some players left before August.

He is a cry baby...USC made room for him to sign early, but one of the students didn't graduate to clear room for him....it wasnt like USC reneged. The roster spot they anticipated for him will not clear up until after the spring semester. From what I have read, the kid dreamed of playing for USC his whole life and he can't wait another 4 months?!! Really!!??
Not only that, what was reported in the press (or whoever spinned the story) claimed that USC lied to him or pulled the scholly....
Alot of these beat writers never bothered to verify the facts and proably got their Journalism degree from a JC....

While I don't condone over signing, I can understand a coach anticipating one or two players leaving his program each spring. But to know that ten players will be leaving, that is a rare gift.

Exactly!!! This is an NCAA issue, not Alabama or USC's.....
Unless the rules dictates otherwise, why not if you can get the best players!!

As I recall, the players involved back then were enrolled in school for the spring and so they counted on the previous years limits. USC wasn't "over limit" then.
At least that's what my foggy brain seems to remember. This stuff confoozes me at times. LOL

what about the four players that are going to be kicked off the team, that would make 91. So they are runner up at best. Somehow my math is foggy, how is 90 far behind 95?

saban plays within sec rules regarding over-signing. bama is top dog for a reason, very relaxed over-signing rules in the sec, and it shows on the field. talk about using student athletes. they should be ashamed, but instead they hold their heads high with pride, best damn team in the country they'll tell ya.. bull, biggest collection of scumbags in the country, led by nick satan. but only because the sec allows it.

No problem. Replacements were already in the pipeline.

Everyone needs to remember that stretching the rules does not necessarily mean breaking the rules. There are plenty of opportunities to search for loopholes in the shadows of any rule.
