04:08 PM ET 02.20 | The Buffalo Sabres announced on Wednesday afternoon that the team has fired long-time head coach Lindy Ruff. The announcement was made by general manager Darcy Regier and came as a surprise to most, as Ruff was previously the longest tenured head coach in the NHL. Ruff was originally hired by the Sabres prior to the 1997-98 season and led the team to the Eastern Conference Final. The next year, he followed up the performance with an Eastern Conference championship and took the team within two games of a Stanley Cup. As of this time, the Sabres have yet to announce a successor. However, Regier is expected to meet with the media around 5 p.m., ET.

Its funny you say that. I walked into work the day they hired Lavi down here and the Flyers faithful wanted my arse on a platter when I said he will bring you to the Cup. He is a great coach; problem is he has nothing which the brain surgeon Home boy gave him.
Sad, the place is a zoo. Might be the best thing for Lavi though; you got Claude and that's it.

Homer is definitely the problem. He can't seem to see that the game has changed. You need speed and finesse today.

They slaughtered the Isles and they'll slaughter the Pens tonight so Lavi's job will be safe for a little while longer.
About time for Ruff though.

GM saved his behind w/ the updates on the roster. Coach always falls first. We know how that goes down here.

I have a feeling the reason he lasted so long is that, despite how desirable a NHL coaching job is, Buffalo is probably the very last city in the league anybody wants to live.

It's been a while coming. No surprise. Coaches, with very few exceptions are hired to be fired. Lindy was probably around 5 years longer than necessary.

considering your statements, it seems odd that you would declare Buffalo as less desirable than Ottawa.
