Grueling workouts greet Vols

06:05 AM ET 02.21 | Following a Wednesday workout with his new team, Tennessee football coach Butch Jones tried sweet tea to soothe his raspy voice. "The players saw a little bit of Butch Jones this morning," Jones told the crowd at the Big Orange TipOff Club at Calhoun's on the River. "They're going to have my mentality." ... His players are being graded in what Jones calls the "Standard" workouts, a series of seven extremely intense four-minute stations designed to push players to their mental and physical limit. "It's about playing up to what we call the Tennessee standard," Jones said. Jones likes to add a competitive element to the pre-spring workouts as a way of breeding leaders while making the drills more engaging. "There's a winner and loser in every drill," he said.

Don't worry about your defense coach. Once they square off against the likes of Alabama, they will face 7 four minute drives that will test their physical and mental limits. Better do the drills for the offense though. Don't know how you will keep them on the field four minutes at a time...

No, the Vols started calling it, "Playing up to the Tennessee standards", the day LK walked off the campus for good!!!! LOL.

I've noticed that every time there is a coaching change, one of the guaranteed off season stories will be about the new emphasis on work outs. Apparantly the fired coaches didn't care about such stuff.

Well, the Vols aren't exactly in a position to be emphasizing championships just yet.

Just another day of snarky blather from the usual crowd of self-obsessed shizzle slingers. I'd challenge you to make just one intelligent or thoughtful or grammatically correct post, but I know your motivation for doing so would be snarky retort to my challenge. You know, it wouldn't hurt you snarks to try to be just a little bit clever or entertaining in slinging shizzle.

For that matter, where in the name of CFB is the game & team interest once exhibited by many of you now content to sling shizzle full time?

I for one would like to see the vols turn the corner. They have always been my second favorite SEC team bc I was born in TN. I just hope they don't progress THAT much......

I really believe Penn St. should appreciate the NCAA for keeping them. Because if I was running an athletic league, I wouldn't want to be associated with this sort of program or have a program that did the things PSU did.
I just finished watching "Katie" from 10 days ago with Sue Paterno and was totally disgusted with the Paternos and the has been washed-up football player that was defending Joe by saying there's nothing Joe could have done. Apparently Katie had a stroke or something and NEVER mentioned that Joe was told, and admitted to being told, by Coach Mcqueary that he SAW Sandusky having sex with a 10 year old boy in the shower, and then did nothing to follow through on eliminating Sandusky from the PSU campus.

C'mon, really. This article wasn't exactly chest pounding material for Vols, now was it? I've got nothing against them, and I'd like to see 'em make a come back, but in the meantime, just be grateful TN gets as much press as it does for a program that hasn't won much in a few years.
