06:09 AM ET 02.21 | Will the world's best players be in Sochi? The NHL is interested in allowing its stars to play at next year's Sochi Olympics but is demanding TV rights concessions and rule changes, the Russian Hockey Federation president and three-time gold medalist Vladislav Tretiak told R-Sport. Negotiations between the NHL, the International Olympic Committee and hockey's global governing body, the IIHF, were held last week in New York, but the situation remains unresolved. "In general, there is interest from the NHL," Tretiak, who is involved on the IIHF side, told R-Sport. "But they are laying down [terms] that can be accepted only at the level of the International Olympic Committee."

interested to know about the rule changes and to what degree bettman will try to water down the olympics

TV rights concessions = putting the games on another yet-to-be-heard-of channel only available on some mom-and-pop cable system in Nebraska.

So the little Napoleon is trying to dictate to the IOC how they run the games. I guess he figures that he beat Fehr he can beat anyone. The only thing is the Olympics will go on as scheduled with or without his approval. The ones that really want to play for their countries will go back to Europe next year and dump the NHL all together. I'd miss not having Gino, but I'd understand why he went.

Actually i am surprised the league waited until now to take some authority here. The NHL shuts its entire operations down , risks injury to its players , and provides one of the marquee sports to the IOC for zippedee doo daaa return. This had to change .

Except for kissing and making up...

No hate, no good.

If you think about it, no other limpic sport really allows hurting to occur.

Maybe the MA ones and now they've killed rasslin'. And the boxers wear the head gear...

I think they should add a real new age sport like MMA instead of skate boarding, half pipe, etc....

The Limpics need some blood.

Or they could simply realize the error of their ways and stay home and play real hockey.

Well said. Nothing to do with who the Commissioner might be. While I like the Olympics I yearn for the old days when it was played by amateurs (although the Russians were never really amateurs). If Crosby or Malkin or (name any star) was hurt in an event for which their team and the league got nothing in return I think some opinions might change. Remember these guys are professionals being paid millions of dollars per year by fans of the NHL.

Oh boy, the NHL has to negotiate on something again?
They should reach an agreement about 4-5 after the Olympics end.
