11:58 AM ET 02.21 | There have been many discussions about which middleweight fighter was the best challenger to face off against 185-pound UFC champion Anderson Silva, and it looks like the organization has finally decided on a challenger. Michael Bisping and Rashad Evans were in the mix, but the UFC ultimately decided that Chris Weidman has done enough to earn his crack at Silva. It helped that Bisping and Evans are coming off of losses. It appears that a Silva vs. Weidman fight is in the works for a July 6 event. Weidman's agent Dave Martin confirmed the news that the UFC has reached out to Weidman for the fight, but wanted it to be known that nothing is set in stone. Weidman's big wins in the UFC have come against the likes of Alessio Sakara, Tom Lawlor, Demian Maia and a devastating knockout of Mark Munoz. If the July 6 date works out, it will be almost exactly a year since Silva defended his middleweight title on July 7th, 2012 against Chael Sonnen. Silva's last fight was a beatdown of Stephan Bonnar at 205-pounds.
