04:41 PM ET 02.21 | Winnipeg Jets defenseman Zach Redmond sustained a cut during the team's practice in Raleigh, North Carolina on Thursday. During a one-on-one drill in front of the team's net, Redmond fell down and was accidentally stepped on. This left a wide cut in the back of Redmond's leg just above his knee. An ambulance was called and players brought out towels in an attempt to stop the bleeding. According to reports, a large pool of blood was left on the ice. Head coach Claude Noel stated that Redman appeared to be fine and was coherent when the ambulance was taking him away.

It's Matt Cooke's fault! He should be banned for life for starting a new trend in the NHL!

I heard this on the radio as I was driving into PNC last night, freaky accident, even though it's a nasty injury, it could have been much worse... say like Karlsson's nearly sliced off Achilles, or Zednik's near death experience with his carotid artery... Hope he gets back soon!

For real kevlar hockey socks go for like $30-$40 a pair. Seems like cheap insurance.

I saw a report that he was wearing kevlar socks, but the cut was above the area protected. Cutting the femoral artery can be fatal, so it is pretty serious.
