Yankees consider moving Curtis Granderson out of center field

Might be a good move ....Gardner is one of the fastest guys in the league and covers a lot of ground.......

Let Gardner do the heavy lifting in the OF.

I think Gardner is the better center fielder.
The problem with Granderson in left is I don't know if he can play that position well or at least as well as Gardner. It sounds simplistic but it really is not.
The Stadium's left field is renowned as being spacious. So, itself that should not be a problem for Granderson considering he is a centerfielder who is used to covering a lot of ground. But, it is a much different position to play which Grnaderson himself acknowledges.
In his own words: "The biggest (challenge) is you have lights in your face... People say, 'How do you miss a ball?' It's hard to stare at a light and also pick up the baseball. The angles are a little different, too, of course."
The Stadium's left also has prblems with the late sun during day games. Yogi once said about the position, "It gets late early out there."
The other thing to remember is that all left fields are not created equal in the various stadia while most center fields are relatively similar. So, Granderson will also have to adapt to the various field's nuances throughout both leagues (remember more interleague games this year!).
A big thing in Granderson' favor is that when he first started in the game it was as a left fielder. So, it is not a totally alien position for him.
I think Gardner may be the the better centerfielder on the team. I am not sure if Granderson is the better left fielder.
Bottom line: What hte heck, better to find out now than in the regular season.

Ask Jacoby Ellsbury how that move to LF worked out.

This is a short term fix given their prospects in the minors should fill those holes.

I think it's a good move to at least try it and see how it works out but I'm more concerned with Grandy's strikeouts than I am concerned about him screwing up in the outfield.

might want to re-check his career stats. 2004, he played 8 games (7 of them starts) all in CF. 2005 he made 42 starts, 39 in CF and 3 LF.....those 3 starts in LF are his only career regular season starts in LF.

i believe the yankees are giving granderson a break or,,,,the DH spot, more rest less stress at the same time,,,could it be because the team would trade him at mid-season??

Ellsbury burnout himself very quickly, it is sad because he did show alot of potenciall in the prime of his career!!!

If granderson is a natural lefty, he shouldn't have any problem in his new position!!!!

Not sure Alacran, Ellsbury IS in the prime of career. He just needs to stay on the field.

I don't see him Boston next year under any circumstances. Oh well. Bring on Jackie Bradley.

No doubt 195 K's, he set a club record for highest percentage of AB's resulting in a K, 28%.
