04:04 PM ET 02.22 | Jamarcus Russell's name has become a punchline, but the overweight, overpaid former top pick is trying to work his way back into the NFL and will hold a pro day sometime around April 10.
Russell is reportedly under 300 pounds, per Andrew Perloff of SI, and is capable of running a 5.2 40, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. Neither of those are numbers worth writing home about, but for a guy who hasn't played a snap since 2009, its a start. Tony Pauline of DraftInsider.net reports Larry Fitzgerald will help with his pro day as a wide receiver.
If you don't remember Russell's story, he was the top pick in 2007 out of LSU, but in three seasons with the Oakland Raiders, he threw more picks - 23 - than touchdowns - 18 - and was arrested for illegal codeine possession in 2010. His comeback is a longshot, but for a guy who displayed the talent he did in college, its not impossible.

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. What GM would risk becoming the potential laughing stock of the NFL? If Russell really wanted to play football then first of all he would have taken his duties at Oakland more seriously. Then after being let go from Oakland he would have gone straight to the CFL and played some ball. Why didn't he go to the CFL? If he failed in the CFL he would never get another chance in the gullible NFL.
Russell doesn't care about football he is more concerned about being the center of attention and having the spotlight directed back in his direction. What GM is going allow Russell and his divisive character to infiltrate the team facilities?
