10:45 PM ET 02.22 | This weekend is the biggest one of them all for NASCAR as all three of their top major touring series will open their seasons at the Daytona International Speedway. For Danica Patrick and Jeff Gordon, they have a front row ticket that puts them at an early advantage to win the most prestigious race on the schedule: the Daytona 500. However, while starting on the pole is an honor -- and for Danica Patrick, historic, -- it's not always a good thing. In the history of the Daytona 500, only seven drivers have won the race from the pole position.

Too bad math must be so hard for the writer. 9 (not 7) winners from the pole position in 54 races is 17% success rate. For the front row its 14 out of 54, so 26%. Not sure why you would call 26% rare. From the 2nd row we have 10 winners - which brings the victory to 44% of the winners if started in first 2 rows.

I know their will be alot of rednecks running down Danica because she is a woman.Are you out their driveing for a NASCAR team?No you are not.I hope that she wins but the odds are agains her,but I hope that she will finish in the top ten.By the way no one rags on Yelly that is someone that can not even finish a race.

The NW crash today started in the front row (Regan Smith blocking Brad K)....Smith was leading on the high line and alternating the lead with Stewart who was leading on the bottom line....so being in the front is not always accident safe.

* for the record, I am NOT blaming Smith or Brad K....that was a normal tandem racing move.
