Bruins GM's scouting trips merely window shopping

10:04 AM ET 02.23 | Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli will be in Washington today for the Capitals-New Jersey Devils game. On Wednesday, he was in Pittsburgh watching the Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers slug it out. His frequent scouting forays have led to inevitable assumptions that the B's, flush with salary cap space after the disposal of Tim Thomas' $5 million hit, are poised to make some kind of trade or acquisition. The Bruins, off to their finest start in decades at 10-2-2 -- with a day off yesterday in advance of tomorrow afternoon's clash with the Florida Panthers a half-hour west in Sunrise -- have a deep and well-established roster, with no real holes or glaring needs. If they could add a player before the April 3 trade deadline, it presumably would be a forward with some skill and size. Chiarelli, who also found the time to be on hand at his team's solid 4-2 win against the Lightning in Tampa on Thursday, said he is not in the market to do anything right now.

Here's hoping that Chiarelli can get a solid 2nd line winger with a little sniping ability and maybe a decent D-man that could take Ference's minutes. These are not critical needs, but there is room for improvement.

Agreed. He got two games for hitting him away from the puck and a 'Thank You' note that it was Clutterbug he hit. This Bug is the dirtiest ess oh bee in the NHL after Matt Cooke and deserves anything that's coming to him. He had Derek Boogaard as his teacher and toned it down a little bit since he can hide behind him anymore.
I'm sure Taylor Hall feels 2 games was well worth it. Too bad he restrained himself and didn't put his shoulder to the Bug's empty head.

How about .... Ryan Smyth for Tyler Seguin. He'll bring you the kind of experience Mark Recchi brought the last time you won the Cup! :-)

Err........... I'll pass.
I'd love to the B's swing a deal with Calgary for Iginla. He would be that solid 2nd line veteran that could help put them over the top.

How about our Todd Bertuzzi for a couple of first rounders? He's got a lot of experience and will be well rested for the playoffs! And, he could be your Matt Cooke when needed. ;-)

I've been thinking about this, but who do you move? Do we send Seguin to the 3rd line? Lucic? Obviously, we'd just dump Bourque, but Iginla isn't a 3rd liner, so we'd have to shuffle the top 2.
