Blackhawks set NHL point record

11:17 AM ET 02.23 | The Chicago Blackhawks are one of the best teams in professional sports right now and they're far and away the best team in hockey at the moment. Chicago's win against the San Jose Sharks on Friday not only improved them to 14-0-3 on the season but it set a new NHL record for season-opening points. Previously, the 2006-07 Anaheim Ducks held the record for most consecutive points to begin a season. For the record, that team started out 12-0-4 and went on to win the Stanley Cup, so keep that in mind when watching this Blackhawks team while they're on their run. Despite going into overtime three times, the Blackhawks have yet to lose in regulation, a streak that is starting to make itself known in more than just the NHL. The Houston Rockets started 15-0 in 1993-94, both the 1982 Atlanta Braves and 1988 Milwaukee Brewers started 13-0 and the Miami Dolphins finished their 1972 season without losing a game.

Don't get too many Hawks games here. Always liked the team though. It's fun to watch a dynasty type streak going. Don't see it much any more. Go Hawks!!

A salute to the Hawks for their start, but remember last year the team at the end of the season who got hot and kept it going in the into the playoffs and won it all was not the best team in hockey all year.

Too early to tell. I think the Hawks will regret shooting their wad chasing a meaningless record. It was fun while it lasted but, it'll catch up with them at some point. The Bruins are stacked, the Sens don't have enough, the Habs are playing well but, as we've seen too many times before, any team that squeaks into the playoffs (like the Kings last year) can get hot and go on a tear and win it all.
