07:09 PM ET 02.24 | The biggest fight of the night at UFC 157 centered on Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche and the fight for the title. The fight had been hyped for months and was a historic occasion for both the UFC and women athletes everywhere. Rousey entered the fight the favorite, but she was met with some serious trouble right off the bat in the first round. Both women were graceful after the fight, commending one another on a well fought bout. Both also subtly acknowledging the importance of what had just happened. Ronda Rousey's fight wasn't some male fetish of seeing two women wrestling. It was a bonafide bout between two major players in the MMA scene and a giant step forward for not only women in the UFC, but for female athletics in general. Ronda Rousey entered the octagon tonight as a rising star in the UFC. She exited a champion, a superstar, a pioneer and an idol to women athletes (and women -- and men for that matter) everywhere.

no, she really hasn't....she's blazed a trail for herself...people will support whatever makes them money....she found a way to make people money regardless of her gender...other women won't find the same commercial success. She is a "token" female star...and for the near future, it will remain Rousey and "those other women"
