Is there a disconnect between RG3 and Redskins?

08:51 AM ET 02.25 | Robert Griffin III's ongoing recovery from knee surgery points to a possible disconnect between the star quarterback and the Washington Redskins. Recent reports that Griffin is ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation, an Adidas advertising campaign indicating he will be back for the season opener and a couple of Twitter posts from him have combined to portray a somewhat conflicting picture of how he's progressing a little more than a month after having reconstructive surgery on his right knee. Griffin had both the anterior cruciate ligament and the lateral collateral ligament repaired on Jan. 9. As one person close to Griffin said Friday: "I don't understand why we're talking about how close he is to playing or not right now. Let him just get better; there's a long way to go." The feeling from some of those close to Griffin is that both the team -- which took great criticism for allowing Griffin to play through injury in the playoffs against Seattle -- and others around Griffin will put undue pressure on him to return too quickly and risk reinjuring the knee.

Sounds like somebody is trying to inject a little sanity into this story. They need to quit trying to make him be next year's Adrian Peterson and let him heal. Worry about some of the other holes on this team for a while. Your franchise QB is just going into his second year, you need to give him time.

The disconnect is between the thigh bone and the shin bone.

Even the most die-hard Redskins fans who post on this site want him to take the time necessary to heal and come back completely healthy. Why can't the team do that? The short-term money isn't worth it if his career gets destroyed because of it.

Right now, it's all about hype and selling season tickets. Like all good marketing types, they lie through their teeth. As the season gets closer, we'll hear less from the PR department and more from the football department.
I don't think the team really wants to risk their franchise guy.

This whole story line is a tissue. A reporter goes and asks a question. Somebody says III's ahead of schedule rehabbing. Reporter takes that to III's camp. The camp expresses misgivings. Voila: "possible disconnect." (What's a "possible disconnect"?) This is as close to making stuff up as it gets. The press is stupid, but the sports press is sub-simian.

The only disconnect that matters is the ones between RG's ACL,LCL and his knee joint.

Should have NEVER played, period. This guy is the franchise for the next decade, and they risk everything for what? Maybe they get past Seattle, so what? Did they have any chance of winning two more playoff games with a badly injured QB? Never.
Dumb move.

If there is a disconnect it's more likely from the knee down.
Hope RGIII gets heathly soon, he is good for the NFL.

Totally agree. I think this is a made up controversy. I do believe he shouldn't have played so quickly after the first injury whether "the team put pressure on him" or whether he wanted to play (which I think may have been the cause) is immaterial right now. Get well, rehab which is going to be hard work, and play when you can whether its week 1 or week 4 or whenever.

I think you meant to say, "I don't think the team really wants to risk their franchise guy any more."

How can there be a disconnect between RG3 and the team when they have been saying pretty much the same things. There seems to be a disconnect between this unidentified party and the team not RG3 himself.

He doesn't Play for Adidas, he plays for The Redskins, they will announce when he's ready, not a shoe company!

I feel since RG3 is the franchise player,he should stay out and rehab until he and the doctors feel he is ready.I know RG3 will want to get back in there quickly because of the kind of man and player he is.Last season we drafted two QB's and Cousins was the best available at the point of our pick.Cousins will do a good job,so RG3 do not have to rush back. The skins are my team, however,I am looking at RG3 for duration and life after playing football.
