Favre undecided about return

Mike McCarthy might be sitting near the top of the coaching world, but he still isn't sure about his quarterback or his contract for next year. McCarthy and Brett Favre talked for almost two hours recently and then Wednesday afternoon for about half an hour in a downtown conference room after each accepted a national award at the site of Super Bowl XLII. Amid expectations that Favre would use his appearance to declare his intention to play an 18th season, the quarterback instead made it appear genuine that he really hasn't made up his mind. "I haven't decided yet," Favre said. "I'm just going to take a few more weeks."

Wow. Must be that time of year. He will decide when he's good and ready. Why should anyone sit there and speculate? Let the legend decide.

February 1, 2008  07:33 AM ET

Exactly. Though, he really needs ro get back to the team before the draft/free agency starts, so the team knows what needs to address

February 1, 2008  07:36 AM ET

Is this an annual event?

February 1, 2008  07:39 AM ET

Yup - Farve watch....he needs to decide if he still has the desire...blahblahblah. How can he not come back after the year the Packers had.

Brett needing some media McLovin after the season.

February 1, 2008  08:26 AM ET

This is dumb for a franchise quarterback to do this every year. They need to put a time limit on him and if he doesn't committ by that date, they should move on with Rogers. You can't hold a team hostage and then try to ride in a white horse to save the day . . . . . .

February 1, 2008  08:58 AM ET

Maybe his agent can announce his return during the game on Sunday ala Alex Rodriguez.

Every year with this diva drama just like Roger Clemens. Crap or get off the crapper Brett.

February 1, 2008  09:05 AM ET

Does he do this for attention? We have been listening to him say this for 8 years...

February 1, 2008  09:43 AM ET

I'm surprised this topic hasn't made the list of Pulitzer candidates. Same story year after year. SI...will you kindly give us a break! I'm sure when Brett decides, he'll call you.

ahtletes always look stupid when they hold a microphone in their hand. favre looks like he's doing a bad karoke job here. keep the microphone on the stand and your hands on the table.

i love tiger woods, but he looks like an idiot when he's holding the mic.....

I guess its that time of year again for speculation on Favre's return. Like someone said, they are not guaranteed to perform next season the way they did this season, he should just retire. Rogers is quite capable of handling the team besides the guy isn't getting any younger. I like Favre but its kind of selfish on his part.

February 1, 2008  10:56 AM ET

The chances of the Pack doing the same or better next year are slim....he might decide to go out on a high note...

Loki124 | 02/01/08, 07:52 AM

Loki, can you tell me why their chances are slim? They went 13-3, so yeah, I have doubts that they can go 14-2, 15-1, or 16-0 next year, but the team will still be the youngest team next year, they have plenty of cap room, and have only 1 unrestricted free agent that is worthy of signing.

I'll say this now, using the same line of thought. The chances of the New England Patriots doing the same or better next year are slim.

What high note? There isn't a quarterback playing in the league who wants his last pass in the NFL to be an interception!!! That would have been like Jerome Bettis's last carry being that fumble on the goal line!!! He'll be back!!!

Retire! Does anyone really care anymore? What a soap opera.

February 1, 2008  12:09 PM ET

I know I decided that I want to return next year...

February 1, 2008  12:44 PM ET

Looks like he's trying to stick the mic in his mouth.

Either way, as a Packers fan, I am almost to the point of not caring. If he stays, great. If he goes, fine by me as I would like to see Rodgers more.

Course what will happen is that when Favre retires, Rodgers will start stinking and I'll be eating crow.

I hate the Soap Operas on TV now their invading football. Where's the humanity !!!

Isn't this classified in the "Drama King" category? Sounds like a good soap sitcom...
