Cowboys could release Miles Austin

01:30 PM ET 02.25 | The Dallas Cowboys are currently $18 million over the NFL's salary cap, and one casualty of the team trying to reduce its payroll could be wide receiver Miles Austin. Austin's role in Dallas has diminished over the last couple of years, and cutting the six-year veteran out of Monmouth would save the Cowboys $3.8 million. Austin recorded back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2009 and 2010, totaling 18 touchdowns over that two-season stretch. However, he hasn't been able to reproduce those numbers. Austin played in just 10 games in 2011, compiling 579 yards and seven touchdowns. In 2012, he played in all 16 games and finished the year with 943 yards and six touchdowns.

Schefter is off on this one by a long mile...
Guess he does not pay much attention to what Jerry Jones said a few days ago at the combine nor what the Boys website reports.
JJ confirmed verbally that Austin is going no where and this was not Jerryspeak.

Sounds Like Miles is not the only issue at $3.8 Million...
Brandon Carr $16MM cap Number? Shame they just signed him last year...

Carr has a base of 14m...
Dallas did that on purpose so they could make sure they are getting what they paid for.
Jones already said he is restructuring his deal by guaranteeing that. Carr is a very solid corner, he will be in Dallas for another 4 or 5 years.

I wouldn't be surprised if Austin was let go. His numbers have been declining the past two seasons and there are some good WR's available in this draft.

Carr would be a guy they could trade for OL talent.

Austin has a base of 6.7m, not shabby for 63 catches/930yds and 6 scores as the 3rd option in Dallas behind Witten and Dez.
Austin is going no where and he did that with 2 bad hammies.
This kid gets back to 100% and he is tough to stop...especially with Dez and Witten demanding double teams.

Noooooo.....
Bad, bad move brother.
The cap hit would demolish them and he is a very good corner.
Dallas is better to cut Free and his 10m salary, save about half of that vs the cap and sign a vet plus draft a lineman or 3.

Age is starting to catch up with Austin.

Free has less value in my opinion.

This was pulled from a tweet that was posted two days ago... maybe before J.J. made his comments?
It's not like the interns would bother keeping track of stuff like that.

The Cowboys need a guy out of the backfield who can catch the ball, this make both Romo, Austin and the whole offense more productive, it will also slow down the Pass Rush, Reggie Bush, that's da Man!

Post this again tomorrow, interns.
That'll make it 3 times in 4 days.

I've been busy so first I saw it.
But while I like Austin, he seems too fragile to play the tough guy receiver role. Hurt a lot.
