Housley a candidate to take over in Buffalo

08:26 AM ET 02.26 | Lindy Ruff, fired last week as the longtime head coach of the Buffalo Sabres, was also a longtime teammate of Phil Housley in Buffalo. Both were extremely popular there. It wouldn't be surprising if Housley, the former South St. Paul High School star who this winter coached the U.S. junior national men's hockey team to a gold medal in the world championships in Russia, gets interest from the Sabres, if not to succeed Ruff, then as an assistant next season. Housley, 48, is the Stillwater boys hockey coach. With Housley as a U.S. junior national team assistant in 2007, the team won a bronze medal in the world tournament in Buffalo. Housley is a member of the Sabres' Hall of Fame.

2007 tournament was not held in Buffalo. The 2011 one was, though.

Sabres are my favorite second team (touching on the discussion few days ago about favorite, second, third, etc. favorite teams), so I hope they are able to have a success under a new coach as long as it isn't against my first favorite team. :)

Sabres are my third favourite. I like the epee and foil better.

It's nice to see you read these threads. Your fact retention is a little suspect though. :-)

Facts? Facts? What you talkin' about facts? Listen, I'm lucky I remember my address. Most of the time I have a string tied from my front door to the bumper of the car. Works well but it cuts down on any long trips!

Great goalie for sure. I also congratulate you on the use of the term "sweater". Most of these faux hockey fans use "jersey". I'm glad you're a purist. Not surprised though.

It could be worse Slappy. I had Lexie visiting at the old folks home yesterday where wandering aimlessly is a favourite pastime. ;-)
