01:52 PM ET 02.26 | The Arizona Cardinals are interested in trading for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith. The Cardinals need improved play at QB, and they're considering several options, including re-working the contract fro Kevin Kolb or taking a quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft. However, a trade for Smith would likely give Arizona the biggest possible upgrade in the shortest amount of time. The Kansas City Chiefs may be the favorites to land Smith, but the Cardinals likely won't miss out on him without a fight.

It's too late a deal has already been reached to trade Smith.

And, do the Cardinals really think the 49ers would trade Smith to a division rival???

Exactly. Not gonna happen. KC, sure.

Alex Smith holds the Marbles if he Doesn't want to sign a long term deal with KC, he can play rent a quarterback for a season or stay with the Niners!

The Cards need to be interested in building a decent O-line.

They need him more than the Chiefs...
Poor Larry just needs somebody to throw him the ball!

I think it depends on what they get. A first round pick or several higher round picks might make it worthwhile.

100% correct. Smith isn't that much different than Kolb. They'd be better off keeping Kolb, working on the O-line, and then seeing how Kolb or any QB performs for them when they aren't getting sacked 8 or 10 times a game.

Spot on.

They need to use their high pick to draft a lineman for sure.

Maybe the starter gets injured, Smith comes in and takes over the starting job.

It's happened before, if my memory is correct.

The Cardinals started 4-0 last year with Kolb before he got injured, so maybe they should use a few of those draft picks they got from Washington to get him some help.

St. Louis was the team that made the trade with Washington.

I don't care which team Alex Smith goes to as long as the 49ers get just compensation. I think that because Arizona is in the same division as the 49ers they should definitely demand more in exchange.

A proper amount for a divisional foe to cough up would be a 1st round pick. From K.C. I would be less demanding accepting 2 / second round picks from 2013, 2014.

Arizona has better receivers to throw to, but K.C. is in a weaker division where winning the AFC West division is easier to accomplish.

There's a lot of that going around.

Kubiak did it his entire career.

Never happen I agree. But SF might be crazy losing Smith, K is a running QB and they usually don't last too long.
