Brady's deal hurts teammates

07:50 AM ET 02.27 | Tom Brady's cap-friendly deal may, at the end of the day, be unfriendly for his fellow Patriots. He went from $30 million in guaranteed money to $57 million in guaranteed money, all of which he would receive even if he suffered a career-ending injury tomorrow. Take one for the team? Not really. Basically this is an accounting ruse that gave Brady more money, the team more cap room and his teammates less room to maneuver. ... As suspected what this deal did was further enrich Brady, enhance the team's negotiating flexibility and leverage and, knowingly or unknowingly, make it harder on his teammates to get paid market value for their services. Mother Teresa wandering the streets of Calcutta Tom Brady is not.

Yeah! Brady will get more money in the end BUT it frees up valueable cap space now. Can't see how that is bad for his teammates.
And if he suffers a carrer ending injury can't he just retire and reduce that big cap hit at the end of the contract???

The next time Ron Borges says something positive about the Patriots will be the first. This guy is an idiot.

His teammates are the guys on the team now, so freeing up cap space means more money for them, not less. In particular, I think this points to the Pats being able to make Wes Welker an offer he can't refuse.
The future isn't here yet.

Yes he is, he's as big an idiot as you'll find. That $57 mil averages out to $11.4 per season...well below what other top-tier QBs are making. But according to Borges, Brady is greedy. What a tool...he's on the verge of making Shaugnessy sound reasonable.

How does freeing up more cap space equate to his teammates having less room to maneuver in contract negotiations?

$3 mil signing bonus, not $30 mil.

"More Cap Room" is bad news for team mates? That's weird Brady hating logic. Typical Boston sports press.

$57 million in guaranteed money. Not bad for a 35 year old QB.

Who's still one of the best in the NFL? Sounds about right, especially when you look at what other QBs are making. Manning signed for $96 Mil, coming off a lost season and with a questionable neck...and he's a year older.

They couldn't afford to keep Welker?

Most people are figuring that this deal was made to free up some money to do just that. The deal lowers that Pats' cap hit...watch for a Welker deal soon.

No, it was a $30 mil signing bonus payable between now and 2015.
