07:58 AM ET 02.27 | While Joba Chamberlain's motivations weren't quite clear, he knew that what he was about to say would make headlines. Whatever the reason, Chamberlain chose the visitors clubhouse at Bright House Field as his pulpit Tuesday afternoon, when he declared himself still capable of succeeding in the major leagues as a starter. ... "This is probably going to spark a bunch of stuff," he said, before plowing ahead. "It's like: Do you think you have the capability to start? Yes," he said after throwing a scoreless inning in a 4-3 loss to the Phillies on Tuesday. "Do I have four pitches that I can throw for a strike? Yes. Do I have two plus pitches that I can throw from the bullpen at any time? Yes."

Do I salivate when looking at the buffet table? Yes.

Are Slim Jims the breakfast of champions? Yes.

He was asked a question, and, for better or worse, he answered it. It woudl help if he answered it with a base of reality instead of wishes and hopes for what might have been. He is not a starter, and, almost everyone from the Yankees brain trust to the basic fan on the street believes that.
Plus the numebrs overwelmingly say he is a reliever and not a starter.
Girardi: "I'd like to catch another game, too."
Cashman: We're down an outfield bat right now, too. See if he can play center or not."

Slim Jims washed down with a bottle of Jack.

I think he has visions of dollar signs dancing in his head.

Run of the mill starters can make on the average about 4 or 5 time what run of the mill relievers do. For example Phil Hughes makes $7.15 mil and Joba Chamberlain makes $1.875 mil.
Joba may want starter money but the problem is to get the money you need to do the job. And I reiterate: Joba ain't a starter.

This guy may be more trouble than he's worth.

It do indeed. Haven't had a Joba thread in a long time!

There is a reason for that.

He is inconsequential.

I'd rather have Joba starting than Joe managing.

His hit batters will drop significantly this year.

He won't have to pitch to Youkilis.
