High-priced forward's Wild days numbered?

08:04 AM ET 02.27 | Dany Heatley arrived in Minnesota with the reputation as a shooter, something he eared while piling up four 40-goal seasons -- though his output has dropped in recent years, down to only 24 in 2011-12. [Heatley's] foot speed is a concern in today's racehorse NHL, but it's his hands that have really deserted him. He's a half-second slow on the trigger, which is not surprising for scorers as they get older. "Everybody talks about your feet going as you get older, but it's your hands," said Jari Kurri, in his last NHL days. Heatley is only 32, but it would surprise no one if the Minnesota Wild used one of their get-out-of-jail cards to buy out Heatley this summer. He'll make $5 million next season.

What hockey-playing nation has the most drunk-driving deaths per capita? I hope he ends up there.

Good illustration as to why there are no sure things in free agent signings. I'll bet the teams that were in the running for Heatly are sending thank you cards to Minnesota.

How are those other free agent signings working out in Minny? Can they trade other teams for additional "get out of jail free" cards?

With his attitude....his whole NHL career may be numbered. Not gonna find alot of sympathy around Danny Boy!

But you just know that someone thinks that he can be okay, if he just has the right team.
GMs and coaches are like the women that date "bad" guys.
"Oh, he just hasn't had the right one yet"...

Better get your foot on the gas Dany !

"Everybody talks about your feet going as you get older, but it's your hands". That's not what grampa said.

You are 100% right Danny.

I don't care if he was the greatest and most talented hockey player ever to play the game (he ain't of course), he's still a slime-bucket as a human being.

February 27, 2013  10:07 AM ET

I suppose they think they got their moneys worth 'cause Zach scored the winner last night. Wonder how much $$ they have in those three forwards.

You'd think so but .... nope! There's always a dumb GM out there who thinks they can turn them around. Look at Scott Gomez!

February 27, 2013  10:16 AM ET

Pretty sure the Isles would be happy to take him off the Wilds books. They are going to be hard pressed to reach the salary floor. Some teams would do anything to get around the cap including taking on a class act like Dany.

.... hopefully in the KHL ... ferociously competing against titans of the game like Alexei Yashin.

Slappy this is probably one of the nicest things anybody has ever said about him.

Honestly? I really think one has to get over that.

Long time ago.

It's not like he's done it again.

Not a repeat offender like many NFL players.

Not saying I like him as a plyer but I'm past holding that against him.

The Snyders while obviously sad at losing their son have forgiven.

So far? Gloriously! The rest of the Western Conference is loving it. I hope they they manage to hold on to Heatley long term.

Oh ...... and keep Clutterbug on IR for the rest of the season. :-)

Not a repeat offender in the killing teammates sense. But he is a lifelong dick, so, fair game in my books.
