12:09 PM ET 02.27 | The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to trade quarterback Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs, according to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer. The deal is in place, but can't be official until March. Glazer said the "compensation (is) unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith." The Chiefs have been the favorites for Smith since trade talk begun. The Arizona Cardinals were reportedly interested in the quarterback out of Utah, but the 49ers didn't want to trade him to a division rival.

Good news or bad news for Smith? Going to the Chiefs isn't a bed of Roses.

Sup Dolemite?
This is a good deal for the Chiefs. No QB was worthy of the #1 pick and Smith was the best available option. Now the Chiefs can either try to find a trade partner with and move down to aquire more picks or sit at #1 and draft a franchise tackle.
Still think they need to upgrade WR corps. Maybe somebody like Stedman Bailey from WVU? Probably get him in rounds 3-4 and then kid has great route running ability and good enough speed.

The details can't be revealed until the new league year starts in March.
I'm surprised that the trading partner for Smith leaked! OK, not really!

I wonder which Alex Smith unpacks his suitcase in Kansas City - the pre-Harbaugh or post-Harbaugh version? Just sayin'.

Dont understand why everyone is so optimistic about this Smith guy, for one lets look at his career stats, look at the teams he has been on and his impact or lack thereof....and lets not forget that his team was loaded for a few years and he could never get them over the hump with his low risk, game manager game style. No team can win anything of significance with this guy at the helm. Sorry, and this coming from a life long Chiefs fan. We need someone who can make plays not put us in 3 and 5 every drive. Dink, dunk, dink, dunk,....Smith wont turn it over as much as Cassel, only good part

Considering Andy Reid has a penchant for making incompetent passers like AJ Feeley, Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick look good? I'd be willing to bet on the post-Harbaugh version.

Really good point, but remember, none of them truly excelled. Reid, however, knows offense and the QB position. Donovan McNabb looked great under Reid, but awful everywhere else.

Good point. At least he hasn't been hit in some time.
