Stars trade Michael Ryder to Habs for Erik Cole

12:40 PM ET 02.27 | The Dallas Stars pulled off a major trade on Tuesday with the Montreal Canadiens, sending winger Michael Ryder to the Habs in exchange for veteran winger Erik Cole. The Habs also acquired a third-round pick in 2013 as part of the trade. The move seems to be one that fits the needs of both teams; the Stars were in need of a more defensive minded forward who can get to the front of the net, while the Canadiens were in need of more cap flexibility after this season. Cole is also reunited with Mark Recchi and Ray Whitney, whom he has great relationships with from earlier in his career.

I don't think I cared then either

I'm more interested that the Flyers got Simon Gagne back.

I believe Bergevin is thinking that this is the answer to Montreal staying atop the Eastern standings but its not 2006 and this team is nothing like that Carolina team and the combo of Whitney and Cole to me in my opinion is not the answer.

Not sure what you meant by all that, really.

Wouldn't make staying on top of the Eastern standing a top priority in Bergevin's place. If it happens, great. A good playoff run would please me more.

You do know that Whitney and Cole are now in Dallas, right?

Yes I was refrencing 2006 Canes and what I was trying to get at with the statement is that I don't feel the trade helped either team so much that it had to be done but I admit I lost myself in my own ramble, need to install a lifeline on my keyboard

or a period.

I don't get this trade at all. It is worse than Neal and Niskanen for Goligoski ;-)

C'mon PC. Periods, commas, semi-colons, exclamation points. The sort of thing lawyers worry about. Stream of consciousness is what we want here. Otherwise I'd spend my time being really p o'd about the Caps. I'm headed for a nap now to dream of Lord Stanley handing me his Cup.

Brooks Orpik destoryed Cole that year.

Does this qualify the Stars as 'Old kids on the block' status?

They're working on it. I hear they're trying to coax Modano and Zubov out of retirement.

Actually - with all the kids, this moves us just a step above puberty - even with Whitney and Jagr.
