Is Matt Cassel really the answer in Arizona?

07:35 PM ET 02.27 | Right now the Chiefs' starting quarterback is Matt Cassel but that is almost certainly going to change in the coming days. There is no way the Chiefs are going to hang onto both Smith and Cassel, which means Cassel is about to become yet another former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback. But the question becomes, where will he land once he's ultimately cut by Kansas City? ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted that Cassel will be released and that there will be a market for him in free agency. Will there really be a market for an overpaid quarterback who has done nothing but fail in his NFL career? Cassel's only passable season as a starter came when he replaced Tom Brady a few years back after Brady suffered an ACL injury and he also managed to put together one solid year in Kansas City. After that, Cassel became yet another quarterback to pull a Kim Kardashian and use a single moment of dumb luck to strike it big. Just like Kim K, Matt Cassel proved that outside of his 15 minutes of fame, he really isn't anything that special. However, there are plenty of teams that would be willing to give him a shot as a backup and even one that might be willing to try him as a starter.

The answer is "NO!"

If they don't upgrade the O-line, it wouldn't matter who they put back there.

Ditto!

He better be able to run, because he sure can't hide.

How much is Fansided paying SI to have them force these terrible editorials down our throat? Using Kim Kardashian as a comparison? Really? What a weak article.

I wouldn't want Cassel as my starting QB, but this article does him an injustice. He had two pretty solid seasons, where he had QB ratings of 93.0 and 89.4, and led his teams to 10-5 records in 15 starts in each of two seasons. It wasn't "dumb luck" which one might pull off in 2 or 3 games.

I beg to differ. Kim Kardashian's 15 min career continues while Cassel has the fat lady ready to sing him a lolly bye.

Arizona has to do better than re-treads.

I think I'd rather have a Geno Smith than Matt Cassell if I'm the Cardinals.

" Cassel's only passable season as a starter came when he replaced Tom Brady a few years back after Brady suffered an ACL injury and he also managed to put together one solid year in Kansas City."

I count 2 seasons right there, in one sentence.

Please don't bring MATH into this! ;^D

Questions about Arizona's QB situation have always felt kinda rhetorical

This would seem to be the prevailing wisdom heading into the draft. But, we are talking the AZ Cardinals here.

If he's the answer then question is wrong...

And last I checked, anyway, two seasons did not have a total running time of 15 minutes. The only comparison you can make between Cassel and Kim is they've both spent way too much time on their backs.

I don't think Matt Cassel is the answer anywhere.

February 28, 2013  02:32 PM ET

if the question is how low will the Cards stoop to grab a veteran QB with one good year under his belt, then yes- Matt Cassel is the answer.

if the question is, name the free agent saviour for the Cards- the answer is certainly not Matt Cassel.

February 28, 2013  04:55 PM ET

Matt being cut was the answer to my prayers....

There is no way that the Cardinals are seriously considering Mat Cassel, for any position.
