Gardenhire's days numbered in Minnesota?

08:07 AM ET 02.28 | When the time comes, Ron Gardenhire will retire to Fort Myers -- though his contract runs only through this season, he's in no rush to get there. Gardenhire, who has been with the organization since 1986, and on the coaching staff since 1991, is teetering. ... If it weren't for Gardenhire's pleading, his entire coaching staff might have been gone. Now, he is on the firing line. "I like managing; I like the ballclub, and I'd like to stay here," he says. "If it works out, it works. If it doesn't work out here, will I manage somewhere else? Well, I know I'm not ready to quit being a manager." Gardenhire laughs uneasily, well aware there could be a massive managerial carousel of change this year.

He is only as good with what he has to work with, and the Twinkles management has made bad draft picks, bad trades, and bad free agent signings, which leads to a sub par baseball team.

He must like the Twin Cities life style, because their is not much to like about the team he coaches. He will shed no tears if they fire him.

Gardy fits MN perfectly, it's the rest of the underachievers that need to go.

I have a Gardenhire baseball card from when he was a manager with the Orlando Sun Rays.

... and that's all I've got to contribute.

it's a well run organization that kind of hit a perfect storm of set backs all at once. twins are going to get back on track. if a guy wants to win long term i would think twins would be one of the better managing jobs to have.

wiseup: Overall Gardenhire hasdone a decent job, winning 6 divisional titles from 2002 through 2009. However not having the horses on pitching staff the Twins won only one post season game. Since then through free agency and trades the Twins again hasreturned to insignifcance. Garden hire does the best he can with what he has to work with. If he does not finish 2013 with Twins or be asked back for 2014. Gardenhire will land a managerial job some where else.

The guys done it with smoke and mirrors for years.....might be one of the best managers in baseball.....if the Twins can him...I hope he comes back home to the Mets....move over Terry.....

February 28, 2013  07:15 PM ET

wiseup: Gardenhire would be a good fit with WhiteSox if Ventura walks away.

Gardenhire can only play with the cards that he's been dealt. He probably handles futility as well as anyone.

Gardenhire is one of the best managers in Baseball, he can't help it that Detroit is in his Division!!!

Ron Gardenhire was left with a young team that was ready to break out by Tom Kelly and Terry Ryan. He did well managing, but even during the good years, the quick exits from the playoffs and becoming the Yankees "easy pass" to the ALCS every year was too much to bear.

I haven't checked, but I believe from 2004-2010 the Twins won just one game and went something like 0-6 in the last couple ALDS. After 20+ seasons as a Twins Coach and Manager (coming in now to his 12th season as Twins Manager), as a Twins fan, I welcome a change. Like the guy, but I have Gardenhire fatigue.

If we're rebuilding lets go all the way with all new coaches and managers. Exception... I'm looking forward to Tom Brunansky as hitting coach. Maybe he can step up as manager. New managers without previous managing experience have been doing well recently. Rebuild with Bruno.
