Cubs prepared for the seller ... again

08:09 AM ET 02.28 | Is it too early to start thinking about July? The Cubs were active at last year's Trade Deadline, dealing Ryan Dempster, Paul Maholm, Geovany Soto and Reed Johnson. The emphasis was on the future, especially because the team was 43-59 on July 31. Theo Epstein, Cubs president of baseball operations, said they may do the same this year if they struggle. Cubs manager Dale Sveum is prepared. "That's part of the business," Sveum said. "If your team is out of it, to start building and getting a healthier organization, unfortunately or fortunately, that's part of the business. Hopefully, we don't have to worry about that. Hopefully, we're buying people."

More great news for Cubs fans on the last day of February management is already talking about unloading players at the trade deadline and the first pitch of the season hasn't even been made, and no one has said wait until next year yet.

They were never expecting to contend this year in the second year of their rebuilding anyway. Of course they are going to be trading away some players at the deadline. They certainly are not going to be loading up on players to make a run for it

Yeah, because the Astros won't be there to battle them for the cellar.

The Pirates have gotten into the mode where they play very well for 3-4 months, then just tankn in August and September.

I still say the Pirates are the best bet for last place. not that it makes the Cubs look any better.

Eleven, that's the slug that seems to think that a reference to "jean shorts" is an insult to Cardinal fans, when it's just a tribute to his ignorance

Wiseup... you don't know how baseball works. The Cubs have plenty to sell. It's just not going to net us anything from the top of any organizational charts. Basically, everyone except Rizzo, Castro and Samardjzia is fair game to trade away at the deadline.
