05:16 PM ET 02.28 | The Philadelphia Flyers announced on Thursday afternoon that the club has waived forward Tom Sestito and goaltender Michael Leighton. The team is hoping that both players clear waivers so that they can be assigned to the Adirondack Phantoms of the American Hockey League. Leighton was originally supposed to be the club's backup goaltender this year, but only made one start before getting hurt during an optional skate. Sestito is still ailing from an injury but played well in spot duty with the Flyers. Despite the club's desire to place him on the AHL roster, there is belief that he will be claimed on waivers, potentially by the Edmonton Oilers.

Michael Leighton might be the cure for what ails the Flames goal tending situation. And Tom Sestito will add some much needed size and muscle to the Oilers pint size forwards.

Kiprusoff has 1 more year left on his contract and clearly has not been a solid goalie this year but they may be due to the lower body injury that finally put him on the DL, he is 36 so it is past time that they move in another direction as MacDonald and Irving don't seem to be the answer. Taking a 31 yr old Leighton may seem like a good move but then again its only a backstop for what maybe 2 or 3 years. Best option for the Flames IMO is to wait on FA and pray Mikka can recover in about 2 weeks and return be servicable for the next 1 1/2 years.

I think I would at this point. They want to give Poulin a real shot to play at the NHL level.

I think Kiprusoff's "best before" date is about to run out. I mean, that guy carried the Flames on his back for how many years now? Something's gotta give.
