05:33 PM ET 02.28 | It comes as absolutely no surprise, but the Pittsburgh Steelers announced today that they have re-worked Ben Roethlisberger's contract in a move that will save the team $6 million under the salary cap. While the Steelers helped themselves with the re-do of Roethlisberger's contract, they also helped the division rival Baltimore Ravens. Roethlisberger dropped from the top five quarterback salaries with his restructured deal and that drops the franchise tender to $19.134 million, which makes it a saving of $500,000 for the Ravens if they choose to use the tender on Joe Flacco.

So the Ravens saved 500 thousand until some QB signs an extension and the average goes back up. Since the Ravens can't afford the lower tender offer either b/c they're already over the cap this helps them not at all!

Not really. He still gets the same amount as he would've before just more as bonus and less as base salary.
However, it does help the team get under the salary cap!!!

And once again Roethlisberger steps up and helps his team. What a champion. Now perhaps they could use that extra cap space to get a player or two that doesn't moonlight as a garbage man or drywall hanger to occupy the offensive line. Obviously Ben has already proven he can bring world championships back to the Burgh with the worst lines in NFL history, but just the same it would be nice it he didn't have to keep carrying the team so much.
