08:14 AM ET 03.01 | Whoops? Brian Cashman spilled the beans on what he called "a significant offer" to Robinson Cano, but then quickly clammed up saying, "I'm not going to comment anymore." He didn't have to, Scott Boras did the talking for him. Minutes after the Yankees GM accidentally revealed the Yanks had broken tradition and offered the potential free agent a contract, the second baseman's agent poured water all over it, telling CBSSports.com, "Robinson is focused on preparing for and playing the 2013 season. By agreement, discussions shall remain confidential. Also by agreement, discussions will cease if they are a distraction to Robinson's performance and leadership of the 2013 Yankees."

Is Robinson Cano really considered a leader on the Yankees? Honest question.

Yeah. I thought for sure that ARod was the one they want to emulate.

QUOTE(#3):

Make your significant offer......and if he doesn't accept it move on.Yankee fans are tired of begging and overpaying guys who've already hit their prime.....its a stupid practice. If they want to come/stay, they will...if they want to move on, fine. We can use the 20 mil per on multiple players

At this point, I really believe that the Yankees have no intention of retaining Cano next year. They made Cano a decent yet below market offer which they knew Cano would reject.

Cashman's just greasing the wheels for next offseason so he can tell the fan base "well, we tried to keep him here".

Let the bidding war between the Dodgers and Angels begin.

It' never good to give a guy on the wrong side of 30 a $200 million dollar contract. We'll see what the market will be for giving Cano a $200 million dollar contract.

The Red Sox and Yankees have learned their lessons. LA has to be nearing the point that those teams are tapped out. Chicago is still years from competing so why sign a 30+ player to a massive deal? Who's going to jump out with an $200 million dollar deal they will regret?

There are two teams in Chicago. Neither would be stupid enough to give this guy a $200 contract.
