08:16 AM ET 03.01 | Not only did South Carolina formally add sand volleyball as it 21st sport Thursday, it also won approval to build new facilities for Steve Spurrier. In addition to the volleyball courts, trustees gave final approval Thursday for $17.5 million indoor and outdoor football practice fields at the back of the gameday parking lot on the former State Farmers Market. They are scheduled to open in 2015. The $14.5 million indoor facility, which other schools have built in recent years to attract recruits, will go at the end of the Garnet Way, where players walk before games. Two outdoor practice fields, costing $3 million, will go where a green-roof shed now is located.

USCe spends $17.5 mil and gets an entire indoor practice facility, plus 2 outdoor practice fields.
Bama spent 9 large, over half of what USCe spent, and just gets a weight room. smh

I know MSU has built new facilities, and are building an addition to the stadium to improve the locker rooms, and have a first class media center for post game interviews. It just seems that with so much money becoming available, coaches and administrators are finding ways to invest in the football program rather than fund the other sports at a higher level. All of these "Taj Mahal" facilities have to inflate the egos of the student athletes.

As opposed to Alabama, where the whole state is a garbage-strewn tire fire with dead, oil-stained beaches.

Too bad they probably won't match that amount in additional funding for research.
