08:22 AM ET 03.01 | Rick DiPietro again lit up Twitter Thursday, this time thanks to comments he made to a television reporter. [DiPietro] said he had entertained suicidal thoughts over the past three years. However, the former New York Islanders goaltender insists those comments he made to News 12 Long Island were not meant to be taken literally. ... A source also told ESPNNewYork.com that the appropriate medical personnel within the league have been notified about DiPietro's comments, as has the NHL Players Association, in the event there is any outstanding concern for his well-being. DiPietro said that no matter how difficult things might get, though, he still has perspective. "Look, I've been to a Yankees game and seen Derek Jeter booed," he said.

When other players have committed suicide recently, and the discussion that has been evolving over athletes and depression, i'd much rather Rickety be shot for stupidity like this. Not killed. Just shot, like in the leg or arm and far away from any arteries.

DL - Great game by Kadri last night. That guy can fly.
If one of our goaltenders decided to play well it wouldn't have gone to OT.
As far as DP's comments go, I could care less. The guy is and always was a drama queen. His stupid comment, whether serious or not, just goes to show you DP will always be about DP. All I can hope for at this point is that he plays about zero games in Bridgeport and gets bought out at the end of the year. Biggest bust and waste of a contract ever.

This was just a careless quote by another pro athlete (using that term in its broadest possible definition) who is completely clueless, even about his own kind.
I don't expect these guys to be all altruistic and such, but for goodness sake man, look around...pick up a newspaper once in awhile...

He kind of came across in the interview as a 'whoa is me' type of individual.

well, he'd better be careful. Given his history, that chip on his shoulder is likely to seperate it....

Isles had Reimer's number. We're lucky we won.
But man, Kadri. I can't wait til he's paired with Frattin again.

At this point, a chip on his shoulder would probably turn his body into a fine powder.

The only problem I have with what DP said was that for the past few years I have had this feeling that somewhere in some sport we will see this happen. What I mean is that these athletes take these mega deals that 90% of them will never live up to and pressure mounts. I could see this happening, if DP was 1/2 serious about this and was to say go to center ice during practice and pull the trigger we would all step back and rethink what some of these athletes go through. Now with DP, ultimatily he had 3 choices about being demoted and his injury history: 1. Kick and Scream about how its unfair 2. Go the pity me route or 3. Suck it up and play andtry to salvage something of a pro life. He went 2 but if possible he needs someone man enough to beat 3 into him, but beat it in gently so you don't shatter the glass jaw, shoulder, leg, groin.................

I agree. If the league doesn't jump all over this, keep tabs on him and he actually does commit suicide there would be major lawsuits. Question would he still get all of the money for the next 10 years or how ever many he has left in his contract?

That was hysterical. On another point that contact was not Matthew's fault. DiPietro clearly went after him and initiated the contact.

I'm a bit surprised Johnson hasn't found work yet. He went through a rough patch at the end but he wasn't terrible. Vokoun is basically doing the same as him for twice the pay.
