Kovalchuk cracks NHL for realignment plan

08:24 AM ET 03.01 | Few franchises work out their team plane less than the Devils, which may have something to do with Ilya Kovalchuk's point of view. The NHL has proposed a realignment plan in which the league would go from six divisions to four, as well as changing the playoff system, and [Kovalchuk] doesn't like it. The Atlantic and Central divisions would be in the East, while the Midwest and Pacific divisions would be in the West. ... "For us I don't think it makes any sense to change it," Kovalchuk said. "We have a great division with good travel for all the teams in our division. A lot of rivalry games." ... "And then those wild cards and all that. I don't think it makes too much sense. Hockey should stay hockey. It doesn't have to be football."

Shut up. Seriously, just don't talk. You play in the division that would be least affected or changed by this realignment. Are you afraid of mighty Columbus?

I agree with you, but that last line:
And then those wild cards and all that. I don't think it makes too much sense. Hockey should stay hockey. It doesn't have to be football."
that needs to go up in 76 point font in Dwarfus Horribilius' office...everywhere he looks. like when Clinton ran in '92 and had the "it's the economy stupid' signs up

And it never will be football. I'm not even completely sure how I personally feel about all this realignment business, but I do agree that it's only fair that teams don't get to play postseason hockey simply because they play in a crap division.
Then again, current system makes sure of that except for the absurd division leader getting a top-3 seeding nonsense.

It makes sense to move some teams (like Columbus), but I don't want this to be like football either.

Kovalchuk's afraid of long airplane rides. In Russia halfway through the flight attendents start asking for gas money so they can stop and refuel.

Ilya needs to have a heart to heart with Pavel becuase no team suffers more than Detroit and thier schedule although the SE travelling to the Jets is pretty crappy. The NHL needs to move the Yotes and get Toronto a second team, maybe a team in Quebec City before they realign or this has to be done again in 2 years.

He's got a point. What is wrong with the system right now?
Maybe one team in the east should be moved to the west and one team in the west moved to the east but that's it. The top teams get in the playoffs now. You are playing a lot of rivalry games. The schedule is set up the same for all teams. The new system is they want you to play division rivals in the playoffs, except if you are the 4th seed, then that doesn't matter. And if you are in a 7 team division you play some teams in your division more then others, but in an 8 team you play them the same but teams outside your division differently.
And they will have 16 teams in one conference and 14 in the other. And what happens when QC gets a team, or TOronto gets another team. Then you have 18 teams in the east and 14 in the west. Because we all know no matter how stupid it is the NHL will do it.
And why isn't Florida playing with teams closer to them, they play the teams in the North, that makes sense? They move Carolina and Washington away from them?

It's already been said that the PA and many different owners don't like this new set up. So why should they shut up? Just let the NHL continue to do stupid things to the league?
