04:12 PM ET 03.01 | The Calgary Flames dodged a bullet when the Colorado Avalanche matched the team???s offer sheet to restricted free agent Ryan O???Reilly. According to a report by Chris Johnston of Sportsnet, the Flames would have had to placed O???Reilly on waivers had the Avalanche decided not to match. This would have allowed any team in the league a shot to acquire him. Potentially, the Flames would have given the Avalanche a first- and third-round draft pick as compensation and then could have lost O???Reilly via waivers. This would have been the case because O???Reilly played two games in the KHL after the NHL lockout had been lifted. This would denote him as a European free agent.

It is still funny. This last fiasco proves once again the Flames are the worst ran organiztion in the League and as long as King and Feaster are running the show that won't change.
