06:01 PM ET 03.01 | The New York Jets are expected to sign veteran quarterback David Garrad when free agency opens on March 12, according to Adam Schefter from ESPN. Two things are true in New York for the Jets: they are roughly $8 million under the salary cap, and they need some serious help in figuring out what's going on at quarterback. Last season was a new low for the Jets when it came to quarterback troubles, and this is coming from a guy who remembers the short-lived Rick Mirer era in Jets history. Mark Sanchez clearly proved last season that he can't quarterback a team that has no talent, which to be honest is a hard thing to do. But the infamous "butt-fumble" essentially summed up where Sanchez is in his career and it's time for the Jets to bring in real competition for the starting job. The Tim Tebow debacle was only the beginning of the Jets' problems in terms of quarterback depth but new general manager John Idzik is not leaving any leaf unturned when it comes to finding a backup.

No, the time for that was LAST pre-season.
