09:11 AM ET 03.02 | As he recovers from surgery on his right knee, Albert Pujols' spring-training routine hasn't changed much over 2 1/2 weeks. He is taking batting practice, fielding grounders hit at him and jogging on a treadmill. He has not run the bases and appears at least two weeks away from playing in an exhibition game. But Pujols, 33, said Friday he would be ready for the April 1 season opener at Cincinnati. Asked how many spring games he would need, Pujols said, "None. As long as my body feels good, I'm ready to go." He was serious. "I've got 8,000 at-bats in the big leagues," Pujols said. "I think I've got plenty." Manager Mike Scioscia chuckled when told of Pujols' comments. "He's probably being a little tongue-in-cheek, but he's not going to need the 40 to 50 to 60 at-bats some guys need," Scioscia said. "He needs to see some velocity to try to get locked and in and get his balance... But as long as he's playing by the middle of March, there's no doubt he'll be ready."

Going into year 2 of his painfully backloaded 10 year contract, this is not going to end well for the Halos.

And have a better year this season...

i don't doubt that pujols would be ready, the question is is he ready to be a much better productive than last year as an R,B,I, machine??now lets not forget this player was the worse player in the halos roster last year,

Pujols has stated that he do not NEED any spring training at bats, pujols has sayed to have 8,000 at bats and he do not need any at bats at all,WHO is he trying to mock??pujols don't be too arrogant and remember that you were a complete failure last year, so the best thing you can do for your team IF you do have some respect for the game, get ready in spring training and fix your terrible timming in the at bats at the batter box,,,,

I would hate to see pujols start the season with a lousy 200 AVG and with too many groundouts to the second third and first base,,,now that would be very shamefull IF

Angels digg down their own graveyard to said the least, should pujols hit under the mendoza line?? don't blame the player and just replace him with a super utility player!!!

The arrogance of Pujols' statement is a little unsettling.

PUJOLS needed a full month from the regular season, last year just to get ready,,should we believe pujols statements??the spring training is there for every player WHO is off timming and has his mechanics out of line, pujols may had 8.000 at bats but coming the regular season those numbers mean nothing!!! and you need one full month from the regular season just to tuneup yourself as a hitter?? shame shame shame,,,,,

Being a Cardinal fan, I love Albert. But............. He better have a good year or the Angels fans will turn on him. Never would have been an issue had he stayed in St. Louis.

he wouldn't be ready and what it is more confused?? he likely put the injuried/surgically repaired knee as a excuse,,,oh i can't get my timming back because of the old injury to my knee,or i still have 8.000 at bats in my back pack,,or i really don't like the weather in anaheim that's why i play slowly!!!
