Will cross-check earn Jamie Benn suspension?

09:45 AM ET 03.02 | Stars center Jamie Benn will have a phone hearing with the NHL on Saturday in reference to a game misconduct penalty he received for cross-checking Edmonton's Ryan Jones Thursday. Benn left the Stars bench on a shift change and skated directly to Jones, cross-checking him in the back. The hit was in retaliation for Jones running into Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen a few moments earlier. Benn can receive a possible fine, but is not expected to be suspended.

Nice acting job by Jones. I'm sure he was just fine after the penalties were all sorted out.
If that is a hit worthy of a suspension, then tripping, hooking and slashing are as well.

Yep... And if they are going to stay in this hunt, there are three things that have to take place;
1 - cut down on the penalties
2 - GAA in the lat 8 games is over 4.3... That has to be fixed
3 - our forwards are willing to engage - but (with the exception of Dillon) blue liners are playing with to much "finesse". That ain't gonna get it done.
The kids are playing fine, Canuck... It's the leaders that need to step it up.

Benn's assault was vicious, premeditated, deliberate and retaliatory. He came off the bench and skated directly to Jones to carry out his assault. Jones had his back turned toward him, had no idea he was coming and had no way of protecting himself. This one meets all the criteria for a stiff suspension. Will it happen? Who knows?
