11:13 AM ET 03.03 | The writing was on the wall. Now, Randy Moss has placed it on social media. The 49ers' wide receiver and pending free agent made it clear he won't be back for a second season in San Francisco, via his Twitter account Saturday evening: "Wished we could've finished the job!!thanks for the opportunity an good luck in the future 9ers." Moss' tweet came on the heels of a report from ProFootballTalk earlier in the day that quoted a source as saying the 49ers didn't have interest in re-signing the future Hall of Famer. The feelings may have been mutual. Before the Super Bowl, Moss, 36, expressed dissatisfaction with his role as a "decoy" in the 49ers' offense. He had 28 catches for 434 yards and posted fewer than three catches in 12 of 16 regular-season games.

Moss can take his inflated ego into the sunset.

Way to hide behind a keyboard, dude.

O Dang where will the "Best receiver that ever played" go now? Maybe a new reality show with T.O.

It's too bad, really. Physically, he was more gifted than Jerry Rice, but RM didn't have a decent work ethic or more than 20 brain cells to help him think things through. He was a nonfactor and really won't be missed.

exactly. I'm kind of glad he didn't get a ring (tho I suppose it's still remotely possible). Supremely gifted athlete, no brains, minimal dedication, huge ego, no class.

Nice jesture on your part Randy saying goodbye to the Niners before they said goodbye to you. You are 36 know no more a deep threat or can get separation from defenders, and still don't like going over the middle for the ball. So maybe it is time you send your papers into the league and retire.

I thought he said goodbye when he watched that pick in the Super Bowl,

Thank you for doing your best to behave as a Forty Niner. Your career in the NFL is not over, and I'm sure teams like Dallas, Washington, and the Patriots will show interest in you in the coming months...

The way to avoid being a decoy as a WR is to go all out on every play like Jerry Rice did. CBs never knew if it was a running play or passing play the way he took off. Rice - pure class.
Moss - not so much. And I'm a Cowboys fan, but let's be honest, Rice set the standard for WRs. The best WR I have ever seen. Moss - wasted talent and little effort.

Brady to Moss was a touchdown connection approved by the Football Gods. Randy seemed to outstay his welcome in New England a year after that. Doubt very much BB would take him back now when he had the chance before Moss went to SF.

Parting is such sweet sorrow Randy.

Here's your hat and coat, come back when you can't stay so long....
