Report: Dolphins may use franchise tag on Randy Starks

05:46 PM ET 03.03 | The Miami Dolphins could be using their franchise tag on defensive tackle Randy Starks. NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal said that he believes the Dolphins will use the tag on Starks instead of defensive back Sean Smith, but nothing has been formally announced. Starks took to Twitter on Sunday, tweeting that he wants to remain with Miami for the rest of his career, and that he would be willing to give a discount to stay. If he is indeed hit with the franchise tag, he will make $8.45 million in 2013, compared to the $10.854 million it would cost the team to tag Smith. The Dolphins did not use the tag in 2012, and the last player to receive the designation from them was nose tackle Paul Soliai in 2011.
