05:59 PM ET 03.03 | Lauren Silberman became the first woman to try out for an NFL team when she participated in the New York/New Jersey Regional Scouting Combine, but she will not be the first woman to play for an NFL team. A leg injury sidelined her after only two kickoffs on Sunday, bringing an end to her bid to play in the NFL. Silberman's first kick went only 16 yards and she appeared to injure herself on the kick. She took another kick, but that one was even worse, flying just 14 yards. Before Silberman could try a third time, she asked for the trainer. After consulting with the trainer, Silberman walked off the field and was evaluated further. She did not return to action.

So in her attempts to be the first woman to ever play in the NFL, she set women's chances back several years.

Did anyone really think she had a chance to make a team? Come on.

No one who watched her kick on YouTube, that's for sure. Her kicks at the tryout weren't an improvement, but they weren't very much worse. Y'know, there are female kickers out there with some game. She isn't one of them, so why is she news? If she could even hit from 40 I could see putting some attention on her just to see what she does, but she didn't seem to have the leg to hit from any farther than 20. Unless I saw the only bad video of her on YouTube. (Actually, it was hard to find any useful film of her, which was probably on purpose.)

Lots of bigotted posts here. Reproductive organs and sexual identity. Unless you are a male, apparently you don't deserve a chance. You all are a bunch of bigots. I see "Hope Solo" posts, but the only thing they have in common is gender. Bigots. And grading because of YouTube video? Bigger bigots. You weren't open enough to look further than a video post. Sad people. Probably think gender should grade pay scale, too.

Seems to me the best kickers will be found on soccer pitches.

I think it's pretty cool this chick tried out, but the sad truth is she probably hurt the women's equality movement more than she helped.
Injury or not, she didn't even break 20 yards with any of her attempts. I know children who can top that in their sleep, uphill both ways. So to speak.

Way to go off the deep end. Nobody really hashed women at all.

In my opinion the NFL is far too violent for a small woman to participate. I for one would not like to see my wife, girlfriend, sister or daughter knocked out while playing. I'm 6' and 215 pounds and would get my clock cleaned if I walked on an NFL field. It isn't a gender issue, it's a strength, size and speed issue. If a woman tried to play who was large and strong and fast, I'd say go for it...but again I would have trepidation because I would not want to see a woman hurt like this. If being protective is being a bigot than so be it.

The NFL needs to quit the political correctness . What are they trying to do, attract new fans with this ridiculous stunt. They look foolish trying this stuff. Play football!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dunno, I think a lot of this has to do with the fact that the woman in question can't kick well enough to make a high school team. I would love to see a truly talented female kicker break in, but so far I've never seen video of a woman making the kinds of kicks they'd routinely be asked to make in the NFL. I don't care about gender when it comes to that. Bring in one who can do it and I will root for her.

The girls on the 12 year old Soccer Team kick the ball 20-30 yards, I don't think she ever kicked a ball!

Comment #2 was removed... where I pointed out that Lauren Silberman's injury supports critics claims that women would be too injury-prone to play in the NFL.
Well what exactly do you think this was? Stupid mods.

I didn't cuss or use bad words. I didn't even give my own personal opinion: which is quite the opposite of the critics.
But removing comments that are essentially facts because some people can't handle the facts... that's just bogus. If that's what you're going to do, you should just remove the whole TnR post.
